Community Involvement Through CouncilHer earlier Council responsibilities included Communities in Bloom, the Spirit of BC Committee, Labour Relations and the Community Involvement portfolio. In 2014 she identified encouraging volunteerism in Quesnel as an area she wanted Council to pursue. These were Council-related responsibilities rather than necessarily independent volunteer positions.
Independent Volunteer ServiceI have not found enough reliable information to establish a substantial pre-Council independent volunteer record. This is kept separate from the many community activities she undertook as a councillor.
March 19, 2024 Council Meeting — Grave ErrorRoodenburg seconded Councillor Tony Goulet’s motion concerning Grave Error and the City’s relationship with Lhtako Dene Nation. The motion passed unanimously.
April 2, 2024 Council MeetingRoodenburg played a prominent part in the discussion concerning Mayor Ron Paull and the book. She relayed information she said she had received from two Cariboo Regional District directors concerning Ron showing or offering them the book. Ron disputed her characterization of what had occurred.
Her Reading of the BookDuring the April 2 meeting, Roodenburg stated that she had purchased and read Grave Error herself, saying: “I bought it online and I want my money back.”
Censure and SanctionsRoodenburg subsequently supported Council’s censure and sanctions against Mayor Paull. During the discussion she said the issue was “no longer about the book” but about leadership. Council voted unanimously for the censure and sanctions.
Subsequent Court DecisionIn March 2025, the BC Supreme Court quashed the Council resolutions censuring and sanctioning Mayor Paull on procedural-fairness grounds.
